エムリー・スミス兄弟はソルトレークで生まれ、B Y高校、B Y U大学を会計学専攻で卒業、公認会計士。アーンスト•アーンストという全米の会計監査の会社に勤め、ユタ大学に戻り、修士課程に入学、その後ユタ大学で会計学の教授として勤務。
専任宣教師として1964年から1967年まで北部極東伝道部で奉仕し、小松忠兄弟や玉屋晃世兄弟の改宗に貢献。ソルトレークでは、ビショップを２度務め、1988年から1991年まで名古屋伝道部会長を務める。その後2015年から2017年まで再度日本に戻り、仙台で夫婦宣教師として活躍。パメラ•パッカー•スミス姉妹との間に6人の子供、20人の孫に恵まれる。
Brother Emery Smith was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from BY High School in Provo. He graduated from BYU in accounting and worked for Ernst and Ernst, a national accounting company. He later pursued an MBA degree from the University of Utah and taught as professor of accounting at the University of Utah.
He served a mission in the Northern Far East Mission from1964 to1967. He was instrumental in converting great church leaders such as Brother Tadashi Komatsu and Brother Akio Tamaya. He has served as bishop twice. He and his wife, Sister Pamela Packer Smith served as Mission President in Nagoya from 1988 to 1991. They also served a mission together in Sendai from 2015 to 2017. They are parents of six children and have twenty grandchildren.
